Deana Beckert Pavelko, 41, formerly of East Haven and West Haven, died peacefully on April 1 in Coral Springs, Florida, with her family by her side. Deana died from complications stemming from her long, courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert “Bobby” Pavelko and stepmother of Ashley and Jesse Pavelko of Ansonia.
Deana was born in East Haven on April 27, 1971, daughter of Malcolm Beckert of Tucson, Arizona, and the late Mary Ann Vergato Beckert. She was also the stepdaughter of Phyllis Beckert. Deana was a 1989 graduate of East Haven High School and a graduate of Branford Hall Career Institute where she studied medical assisting. This degree enabled Deana to work in the medical field, including Whitney Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Most recently, she had worked as a medical claims coordinator for Webster Risk Services in Meriden.
Deana’s family thanks Dr. Fynan and the staff at the Smilow Cancer Center for their care and compassion during Deana’s many visits there.
Besides her husband, stepchildren, father, and stepmother, Deana is survived by her brother Malcolm Beckert and his wife Allison of East Haven; her sister Lori Mayar and her husband Michael of Coral Springs, Florida; three nieces, Tara, Kristina and Jennifer Beckert of East Haven; and two nephews and a niece, Michael, Matthew, and Alyssa Mayar of Coral Springs, Florida. She was predeceased by her brother Mark Vergato.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 27, at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 355 Foxon Rd., East Haven, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Deana’s behalf to the Smilow Cancer Center online or to the Closer to Free Fund, P.O.
