Preston — Firefighters early this morning quickly extinguished a fire at a single-family home at 315 Old Jewett City Road.
Fire Chief Tom Casey said the fire was reported at 5:42 a.m., and was under control within 20 minutes.
Casey said when firefighters arrived at the scene, there was visible fire in one of the exterior walls in the immediate area of the chimney. Two people inside the home safely evacuated without injury.
Water from the first arriving tanker was able to extinguish the fire. Two other tankers were at the scene in the event they were needed. There are no hydrants in the area.
Casey said the occupants may be able to return to the house today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In addition to Preston City, the Poquetanuck and Griswold fire departments and Mohegan Tribal Fast also responded to the scene.
