Man's body discovered at state park in Killingworth
Killingworth — State police major crime detectives are leading an investigation into the discovery of a man’s body Wednesday at Chatfield Hollow State Park.
State police from Troop F in Westbrook and environmental conservation officers responded to the park around 3 p.m. for a report of an untimely death. A man was located and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said a preliminary investigation revealed “no apparent suspicious circumstances” to the man’s death. He did not elaborate.
Police have identified the man but not yet released his name. Vance said police on Wednesday evening were still in the process of notifying the man’s family.
The man’s body will be taken to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.
The park, typically open until sunset and a popular spot for hiking and fishing, was closed after the discovery. Further details are not available.
