Pomfret – A 49-year-old Willington man died Wednesday after sideswiping an oncoming vehicle and striking a utility pole, according to state police.
The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Route 44, just east of Drown Road.
Police said Theodore Bolduc of Willington was traveling east on Route 44 the van he was driving drifted into the westbound lane, hit a westbound truck and then struck a utility pole.
Bolduc was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Thomas Thompson of Plainfield, was not injured.
State police said they sent certified truck inspectors and members of the collision analysis reconstruction squad to assist in the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
Bolduc was driving a van registered to S&D Coffee and Tea of Concord, N.C.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact state police at Troop D in Danielson.
