Rep. Ritter has been a great asset

In response to, "Will GOP seize opportunity in 20th Senate?" (April 13), it is apparent that Editorial Page Editor Paul Choiniere does not know State Rep. Betsy Ritter of Waterford, D-38th District, or he choose not to honestly portray her achievements.

He stated that "Ritter's achievements are more difficult to document" compared to those of Paul Formica and Bill Satti.

Some of Rep. Ritter's achievements are:

    • Led legislation to create Connecticut's highly successful health care exchange, now a model for other states.

    • Expanded access to mental health services for adults, adolescents and children.

    • Built bipartisan coalition to toughen Connecticut's laws on sex trafficking and sexual assault on campuses. We lead the country now.

    • Successfully defended southeastern Connecticut jobs and economy from several tax proposals that threatened the Millstone power plant.

    • Created legislation to push bioscience and pharmaceutical start-ups in southeastern Connecticut. We now have the bioscience incubator project in Groton that uses existing Pfizer building and will grow to serve this sector.

    • Brought funds to expand the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.

Rep. Ritter has been a great asset and hopefully will continue in the state Senate.
