East Lyme's Sophia Shi wins ECC girls' tennis singles championship

Stonington — Top-seeded Sophia Shi of East Lyme won the 2014 Eastern Connecticut Conference girls’ tennis tournament singles championship Friday afternoon with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-3 victory over No. 2 Nisha Rajamohan of Waterford.

The match began at Stonington High School, but rain forced players to move to nearby Mystic Indoor Tennis to complete the third set.

In the doubles final, the No. 1 team of Lyman Memorial’s Maggie Tarbox and Michelle Valliere needed three sets to defeat No. 2 Katie Lewis and Jessie Hudson of Waterford, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
