Unit 3 at Millstone back to full power

Waterford – Unit 3 at the Millstone Power Station returned to 100 percent capacity for electricity production on Thursday, 11 days after it was automatically shut down due to a short in the transmission lines that power plant operating systems, Millstone spokesman Ken Holt said today.

Both units 2 and 3, the two operating nuclear reactors at the station, shut down May 25. Unit 2, the smaller and older of the two, returned to full power production May 29.

Complications encountered during the shutdown of Unit 3, however, required repairs and additional inspections before a restart could begin. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has launched a special inspection in response to the shutdowns and the complications at Unit 3.
