A 40-year-old woman accused of assaulting an elderly man at his Waterford home Tuesday and robbing him of $50 was ordered held in lieu of $49,000 when she was arraigned Wednesday in New London Superior Court.

Wendy Lynch of 68 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme, pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault on an elderly person and first-degree robbery. She has other pending cases and is due back in court Thursday.

The victim, who was unidentified in an incident report prepared by Waterford Police Officer Thomas W. Viens III, was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London after he was found by the back door of a neighbor’s home, bleeding profusely from head wounds. His injuries were characterized as non-life threatening.

According to the report, Lynch knocked on the door of the man’s home at 4 Vivian St. at about 11 p.m. The man said he knew Lynch and let her in. He said she showed him bandages from a recent abdominal surgery and asked whether she could spend the night. When he refused and told her to leave, he said, she kicked him, knocked him onto a couch and hit him in the head with a large wooden salt shaker before going through his pockets and taking $50.

The victim said that as he started to get up, Lynch threw a coffee mug at him and grabbed a knife before apologizing and running out of the house without the knife. The victim went to a neighbor’s house for help.

Lynch’s pending cases include charges of possession of narcotics, carrying a dangerous weapon and violation of a protective order. She has several convictions for larcenies and violation of probation.
