New London judge reduces Lance Goode's bond

In this May 8, 2014, Day file photo, Lance Goode turns to look around the courtroom as he appears before Judge Kevin McMahon on hindering police and tampering with witnesses to the murder of Jesus "Gee" Pinero.

Judge Hillary B. Strackbein reduced the bond Wednesday for New London resident Lance Goode, who has been incarcerated since May on charges he hindered police and tampered with witnesses to the murder of Jesus “Gee” Pinero.

At the request of defense attorney Linda J. Sullivan, and by agreement with state’s attorney Michael L. Regan, Strackbein reduced Goode’s bond from $50,000 cash to $100,000 cash or surety. With a cash bond, Goode would have had to produce the entire bond amount to be released from prison. Working with a bondsmen, he is now expected to be able to make his bond by producing just a percentage of the total. His wife, Lillian, said she expects to “bond him out” by the end of the week.

Should he make bond, the judge said Goode would be monitored electronically by the Bail Commissioner’s office, required to work and have no contact with any of the witnesses in the homicide case.Regan said he agreed to the reduced bond because the case of Keith Delvalle, who is charged with shooting Pinero in August 2013, is expected to be pending for a year or more.

Goode, 46, has had numerous contacts with city police and has brought a civil rights lawsuit alleging use of excessive force and false arrest stemming from two incidents in 2010. Attorneys in the case have negotiated a settlement that requires approval by the New London City Council. The council discussed the settlement in executive session at its meeting Monday but did not vote.
