Drug sniffing K-9 teams join for locker search at Montville High School

Montville – Drug-sniffing dog teams from six agencies conducted an unannounced search of lockers Friday at Montville High School.

The searches were done with the cooperation and permission of the Montville Board of Education and led to a juvenile summons for a 16-year-old whose locker contained a small amount of marijuana, according to police. One of the dogs had alerted to the locker, an indication it contained some type of drug.

The searches were conducted by K-9 teams from Montville, East Lyme, Waterford, Norwich and the state Department of Correction. Among the teams was Montville Officer Addison Saffioti and Molly, a yellow Labrador who started duty in town over the summer. Stonington’s new K-9 team also was present but did not participate in the search.

The unidentified student whose assigned locker contained the marijuana is scheduled to appear Dec. 12 in juvenile court to answer to the marijuana possession infraction.
