    Old Saybrook man suffers accidental gunshot wound while hunting

    Haddam – A 65-year-old Old Saybrook man was transported to Hartford Hospital Saturday morning after he suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg when his rifle apparently accidentally discharged while he was hunting, according to a news release from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. 

    DEEP Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police said the incident took place in a wooded area behind 76 Weiss Albert Road at about 10:30 a.m., according to the release. Police stated that the man appeared to be hunting alone at the time. 

    The man was taken to the hospital by LifeStar, according to the release. The incident was reported to DEEP by local authorities just before 10:30 a.m. and both DEEP EnCon Police and State Police Troop F responded to the call, police said.
