    Three charged after heroin discovered in Mohegan Sun hotel room

    Mohegan - Two Waterford residents and a North Stonington man are facing narcotics-related charges following a discovery by tribal police of heroin in a casino hotel room. 

    On Wednesday, Mohegan Tribal Police started an investigation into the theft of a pair of earrings from a shop at Mohegan Sun. As a result of the investigation, police charged 58-year-old Edward L. Rich of 760 Broad St., Waterford, with sixth-degree larceny. 

    Police said they seized a substantial amount of heroin during Rich’s arrest and subsequently obtained a search warrant for his hotel room. In the room, police said they found numerous pieces of jewelry and a quantity of heroin packaged for sale with an estimated street value of $10,000. Police said they also found a small amount of marijuana and $22,000 cash. 

    In addition to sixth-degree larceny, Rich was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of marijuana. 

    Police additionally charged Paula M. Rich, 63, of 760 Broad St., Waterford, with accessory to possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of marijuana. 

    Craig W. Levine, 57, of 59 Mains Crossing Road, North Stonington, was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

    Paula Rich and Craig Levine were each released on non-surety bonds. Edward Rich was held in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond and due to appear Feb. 5 in Norwich Superior Court.
