Norwich school bus involved in minor accident Thursday morning

Responders from the Yantic Fire Department and American Ambulance tend to students on a school bus struck by a plumber's van on Scotland Rd. in Norwich Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015. One student was transported to Backus Hospital for evaluation.

Norwich — A school bus and a plumbing truck were involved in a minor accident Thursday morning on Scotland Road.

Athena Nagel, business administrator for the Norwich School District, said the accident occurred when the truck backed out of its driveway and the ladders that were attached to the vehicle struck the windows of the moving school bus. Two bus windows were smashed.

Nagel said three Samuel Huntington Elementary students were aboard the bus at the time. One student, who has since returned to school, was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The two other students were taken to school on another bus.

Nagel said the accident happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. She said she, along with the school principal and nurse, went to the scene.
