State hosting open house on Seaside park in Waterford

Waterford — State agencies planning a new state park at the site of the former Seaside Regional Center have scheduled an open house at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Town Hall, according to a news release from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Representatives of DEEP, the state Office of Policy and Management and the Department of Administrative Services will be at the meeting, in addition to Sasaki Associates and Oak Park Architects LLC, a Connecticut firm selected to assist with a master planning process for the park, according to the release.

The project team will give a short presentation on site, building, and market analysis conducted to date; a report on input received to date from stakeholders and the general public; and scenarios or options under consideration for the site, the release stated. Open conversation in an open house format will follow, and is designed to facilitate one-on-one conversations between the community, state officials, and the design team.

“As we move forward in the planning process for Seaside State Park, we look forward to hearing comments and suggestions from the public on what recreational opportunities people would like to have available,” Susan Whalen, DEEP Deputy Commissioner, said in a statement. “This is the third in a series of public meetings and we strongly encourage attendance at these meetings to learn about project updates and the future of Seaside State Park.”
