    American League

    Orioles 7, Blue Jays 1

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0) struck out eight and allowed one single over seven innings, and Jonathan Schoop hit a grand slam.

Alejandro De Aza and Chris Davis also homered for the Orioles, who rebounded from a 12-5 loss to Toronto in their home opener Friday.

After Tommy Hunter worked a hitless eighth, Zach Britton gave up a double to Steve Tolleson and an RBI single to Edwin Encarnacion in the ninth.

Aaron Sanchez (0-1) allowed three runs and seven hits over 3 1-3 innings for the Blue Jays in his first major league start.

    Royals 6, Angels 4

Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez homered during a five-run fourth inning against Jered Weaver, and defending AL champion Kansas City extended its season-opening winning streak to five games with a victory over Los Angeles.

Jeremy Guthrie (1-0) threw 94 pitches in his season debut, allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings as he began a $25 million, three-year contract. It was his first start that mattered since he took the loss in World Series Game 7 against San Francisco.

Greg Holland followed Wade Davis out of the bullpen and pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save. The Royals and Atlanta are the only big league teams whose relievers have not allowed a run.

Weaver (0-2) threw 85 pitches over 4 1-3 innings and was charged with six runs, seven hits and four walks.

    Tigers 9, Indians 6

Ian Kinsler hit an RBI single and Yoenis Cespedes doubled in two runs during Detroit’s four-run ninth as the Tigers stayed unbeaten with a win over the Indians.

Kinsler’s fourth hit — a single off closer Cody Allen (0-1) — snapped a 5-all tie and helped the Tigers improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2006. The Tigers had to rally twice after Cleveland’s Jerry Sands delivered a pair of clutch doubles.

Miguel Cabrera also had four hits for Detroit, which has now outscored its opponents 39-11.

Ian Krol (1-0) got the win despite giving up an eighth-inning double to Sands.

    Mariners 5, Athletics 4

Nelson Cruz hit his first home run for Seattle and Brad Miller threw out a runner at the plate in the 10th inning and doubled in the go-ahead run in the 11th, lifting Seattle over the Athletics. Cruz hit a three-run drive in the eighth off Dan Otero to put the Mariners in front 4-2. Oakland tied the score in the bottom half on RBI doubles by Ben Zobrist off Danny Farquhar and Brett Lawrie against Carson Smith.

Tyler Olson (1-0) pitched around two hits and two walks in the 10th.

Fernando Abad (0-1) was the loser.

    White Sox 5, Twins 4

Pinch-hitter J.B. Shuck had a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to give the White Sox their first win of the season.

Shuck lined a 1-1 pitch from Twins reliever Blaine Boyer (0-1) with two outs, scoring Alexei Ramirez. Conor Gillaspie was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score from second.

Former Yankees closer David Robertson struck out the side in the ninth for his first save with Chicago. The White Sox lost their first four games.

Left-hander Zach Duke (1-0) worked a scoreless eighth for the win.

    National League

    Cardinals 4, Reds 1

Matt Adams delivered his first home run of the season, and St. Louis snapped Cincinnati’s season-opening winning streak at four.

Kolten Wong had a sacrifice fly, Jhonny Peralta and Yadier Molina added ninth-inning run-scoring singles and Michael Wacha pitched into the seventh inning to get the win in his first appearance of the season.

Wacha (1-0) shook off Todd Frazier’s first-inning home run to go 6 1-3 innings, allowing five hits and one run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Adams’ homer is the only earned run allowed by Reds starter Johnny Cueto in 14 innings this season — a 0.64 ERA. Cueto (0-1) gave up four hits and two runs in seven innings.

    Padres 10, Giants 2

New Padres ace James Shields was masterful in outpitching October nemesis Madison Bumgarner, who lasted only three innings in San Diego’s victory against San Francisco.

Shields (1-0) held the Giants to one run and three hits in seven innings, struck out seven and walked one for his first victory with the Padres. He signed as a free agent in February. He combined with two relievers to hold the Giants to five hits.

Bumgarner (1-1), the World Series MVP, allowed five runs and 10 hits to the Padres’ new-look offense. Justin Upton, Derek Norris and Will Middlebrooks each had two hits off the lefty.

Bumgarner beat Shields, then with Kansas City, in Games 1 and 5 of the World Series, and then pitched five scoreless innings of relief in Game 7. Shields signed with San Diego as a free agent in February.

    Phillies 3, Nationals 2 (10)

Odubel Herrera doubled home the winning run in the 10th inning with his first major league hit.

Carlos Ruiz led off the inning with a single off Tanner Roark (0-1). He advanced on a deep flyout and scored when Herrera doubled down the right-field line.

Wilson Ramos hit a solo homer for the Nationals, who wasted a strong outing by Doug Fister.

    Dustin McGowan (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th.

    Brewers 6, Pirates 0

Jimmy Nelson (1-0) struck out a career-high nine in seven innings and allowed two hits, Jean Segura hit a two-run homer and the Milwaukee Brewers became the last team in the majors to win this season.

Hector Gomez added a two-run single for Milwaukee, which stopped a four-game losing streak by tagging Vance Worley (0-1) for six runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings.

Pittsburgh played without All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who sat out as a precaution with left knee soreness.

    Diamondbacks 6, Dodgers 0

Archie Bradley made a dazzling major league debut Saturday night, allowing one hit over six innings to outpitch Clayton Kershaw and lead Arizona to a win over Los Angeles.

Bradley, a first-round draft pick in 2011, struck out six, walked four and singled for his first hit. He became the fifth rookie starter to make his first start against a reigning Cy Young Award winner and the fourth to earn a win.

Kershaw (0-1) lasted 6 1-3 innings and gave up 10 hits, including Paul Goldschmidt’s two-run homer in the seventh inning. Goldschmidt has home runs in four straight games against the Dodgers dating to last season.

Kershaw did not allow 10 or more hits in any regular-season game in 2014. He struck out five and walked three.

Mark Trumbo had a run-scoring single in the top of the first.

    Interleague

    Rays 2, Marlins 0

Chris Archer pitched seven crisp innings, and the Rays beat the Marlins.

Archer (1-1) allowed one hit and one walk, with the latter runner erased trying to steal, while throwing only 84 pitches. Two relievers completed the two-hitter, with Brad Boxberger pitching the ninth for his second save in two chances.

Pinch-hitter Tim Beckham hit his first career homer leading off the seventh, and Evan Longoria doubled home the other run for the Rays.

Jarred Cosart (0-1), making his first start of the season, lost despite allowing only one run in six innings.
