    New London, Norwich to host National Night Out events Tuesday

    New London — Norwich and New London will be among thousands of communities nationwide to host a National Night Out event on Tuesday, with free activities aimed at getting community members to mingle with police.

    New London's event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ocean Beach Park and is aimed at students from kindergarten to fifth-grade who live in New London.

    The event will feature free food and refreshments as well as giveaways.

    Transportation will be provided from Crystal Avenue and the corner of Laurel Drive and Fern Street. Buses depart for the beach at 4 p.m. Permission slips with a signature from a parent or guardian is required to participate.

    Students must have a signed permission slip at the New London Police Department tent for entry. Visit NewLondon.org for the permission slip. Anyone with questions may contact Officer Max Bertsch at NLHSSRO@newlondon.org.

    The Norwich Police Department-sponsored event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Shop Rite Supermarket parking lot at 624 W. Main St. The family-friendly event is an opportunity for people of all ages to meet police in a non-emergency setting. 

    There will be free food and refreshments, giveaways, children's entertainment and a host of organizations that include local fire and emergency management departments.
