    Local colleges: Manoogian sparks Conn past Hamilton

    New London — The Connecticut College men's soccer team wrapped up a 3-0 week with a 2-1 win over Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic conference game on Saturday.

    Freshman Ben Manoogian had a goal and an assist and sophomore Ousmane Dieng also scored for Conn (5-2, 2-2). Austin DaCunha made two saves and Matthew Bitchell and Mark Leon had assists for Conn.

    In other games:

    • Andrew Storton scored twice as Mitchell College beat Elms in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams. Storton, the Bacon Academy boys' soccer coach, scored in the 26th and 70th minutes. Andrew Nigro had an assist and Anthony Drake made six saves for Mitchell (3-4-1).

    • Sophomore Luke Telang scored in the first half and Coast Guard Academy held on to beat Clark 1-0 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. East Lyme's Billy Bragaw made one save for his first career shutout. Ryan Dandan assisted on the goal at 21:19 for Coast Guard (2-7, 1-1), which broke a five-game losing streak.

    Women's soccer

    • Lauren Steele of Conn College scored the first and last goals, but the Camels settled for a 2-2 tie with Hamilton in the NESCAC. Steele scored in the third and 82nd minutes, Alex Bukovac had two assists, Amanda Proulx had an assist and Bryanna Montalvo made seven saves for Conn (1-2-3, 0-1-3).

    • Mitchell lost to Becker 8-1 in its NECC opener. Christina Jando had a first-half goal for the Mariners (1-3-2).

    Field hockey

    • Eva Rosencrans scored 1:53 into overtime, lifting Hamilton to a 4-3 win over Conn College in the NESCAC. Jamie Navoni had two goals, Katlyn Paiva had a goal and an assist and Ryley van der Velde made five saves for Conn (1-6, 0-4). 

    Volleyball

    • Mitchell dropped a pair of matches, losing to Mount Ida 3-1 and Lasell 3-0. Old Lyme's Kaisea Caramante had 24 digs and Nicole Caminiti had 30 assists and 23 digs on the day for Mitchell (2-6).

    • Coast Guard picked up a pair of nonleague wins, beating Wesleyan 3-1 and Trinity 3-2. Madison Scott had 12 kills, Ashley Dumont had 13 kills, Maggie Hine had 12 digs and 46 assists and Michelle McGill had 14 digs in the win over Wesleyan.

    • Conn College picked up a pair of 3-0 wins in nonleague matches, beating Daniel Webster and host Anna Maria. Caroline Martin had 11 kills against Daniel Webster and Jenny Kellogg, Alex McDevitt and Martin combined for 26 kills against Anna Maria for Conn (6-4). 

    Men's cross country

    • Coast Guard finished 10th in the Purple Valley Invitational at Williams College. Gilliam Hill led Coast Guard with a 69th-place finish. The Bears beat Merchant Marine 18-40 to earn a point toward the Superintendents' Trophy.

    Women's cross country

    • Coast Guard came in 13th in the Purple Valley Invite at Williams. Rachel Burchill led Coast Guard with a 68th-place finish. Coast Guard picked up a point toward the Superintendents' Trophy by finishing ahead of Merchant Marine.

    Men's tennis

    • Coast Guard remained unbeaten with an 8-1 win over Assumption. Mark Guentert, Robert Renfrow, Weston Fortna, Michael Melampy and John Hu all had straight-set wins for the Bears (3-0).

    Women's tennis

    • Bay Path beat Mitchell 6-3 in an NECC match. Samantha Ryan of Quaker Hill and Lehayla Cruz won their matches for Mitchell (2-4, 2-3) along with the doubles team of Dominique Lacroix and Cruz.
