Animal control cop did a great job

This is in regard to the article, “Fired animal control officer sues Stonington,” (Aug. 28). I have met Rae Jean on a several occasions, both at my residence (nuisance-pest problems) and at the Animal Control facility. On these occasions, I found Rae Jean to be courteous, informative, and very professional. It’s incredible that she was fired for going above and beyond to rescue some animals on her own that the town would not rehabilitate so that they could be adopted by loving families. It is also a shame that the police department ignored her and did not back her up.

We had a stray male cat hanging around our house last winter. This cat would weather the freezing cold and immense snow piles to come to us for food and warmth. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep him, so I contacted Animal Control. I was told that they could not accept this cat unless he was sick or injured. They will rescue dogs but feel cats can make it on their own and survive. Oh really? What kind of policy is this?

Fortunately, I did eventually find a home for this cat. I fully support Rae Jean and hope she wins her case. What a loss to us.
