    Local roundup: East Lyme clinches ECC regular-season swimming title

    East Lyme — East Lyme High School put the finishing touches on the Eastern Connecticut Conference swimming championship with a 112-70 victory over rival Fitch/Stonington on Tuesday at the East Lyme Aquatic Center.

    The Vikings, 12-0 overall, finished their ECC regular seas1on at 10-0.

    Taylor Gray had a big day for East Lyme, winning two individual events and swimming on a pair of winning relay teams. She captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 20.66 seconds and won the 100 freestyle in 59.00. Gray also teamed with Victoria Chen, Maeve Counter and Gretchen Stelter to win the 200 medley relay (2:03.49) and teamed with Mary Kathryn Taylor, Counter and Stelter to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.30).

    The Vikings also picked up individual wins from Stelter in the 50 free (27.35), Counter in the 100 butterfly (1:04.78), Chen in the 100 backstroke (1:08.24) and Anna Johnson in the diving competition (153.00 points).

    Alyson Lowney led the Falcons (7-2, 7-2) with wins in the 200 freestyle (2:09.76) and 500 free (5:44.01) while teaming up with Cassandra Cini, Danielle Millerick and Paulomi Sardar to win the 400 free relay (4:11.87). Sophie Bonnassieux added a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.00) for Fitch/Stonington.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Margit Burgess had two goals and one assist while Trinity Lennon scored twice as Stonington wrapped up the ECC title with a 7-1 victory over Norwich Free Academy. Erin Craig, Lauren Miller and Maddy Cassell also scored for the Bears (11-2-1, 10-0-1), who held a 24-2 edge in shot and 19-8 edge in penalty corners. Lydia Hindle scored on a penalty corner for NFA (6-4-1, 6-4-1).

    • Chloe McCue scored for Waterford, assisted by Tessa Dipallina, in a 2-1 loss to Woodstock Academy in the ECC. Mikayla Brucoli made four saves for Waterford (3-8-1, 3-5-1).

    Men's soccer

    • Patrick Palermo-Re scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Coast Guard Academy to a 2-0 nonleague victory over Mass. Maritime. Palmermo-Re scored on a rebound off an Alex Hall shot in the 11th minute for the Bears (9-3-2) and one-timed another Hall rebound into the net seven minutes later. Jake Sorenson made two saves to earn his fourth shutout.

    • Christian Tomaj knocked in a rebound in the 58th minute to lift Mitchell College to a 1-0 victory over Newbury College in the New England Collegiate Conference. It was the fourth goal of the season for Tomaj and came after New London's Jose Roman III had his header deflected by goalie Jarrod Smith to Tomaj. Ex-NFA goalie Seth Strader earned the shutout by making five saves for the Mariners (3-8-2, 3-1-1), who have won three straight NECC games.

    • Chris Lockwood and Ousmane Dieng scored goals just 58 seconds apart in the first half to lift Connecticut College to a 3-0 victory over Salem State. Freddie Yao also scored for the Camels (9-4) while Charlie Overton, Michael Milhollen and Brooks Clark had assists.

    • Dylan Greenberg scored his first goal of the season 9:53 into the first sudden death overtime period to give UConn a 1-0 nonleague win over Boston College at Morrone Stadium. Abdou Thiam and Kwame Awuah assisted for the Huskies (11-4). BC is 6-5-2. 

    Women's soccer

    • Logan Ahearn and Alex Sanchez scored goals for Wheaton College in a 2-0 victory over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Rachel Boohar made nine saves in goal for the Bears (5-6-4, 1-4-2). Wheaton is 11-6, 3-4.

    College volleyball

    • Angelou Dunton and Susan West had 13 kills apiece as Coast Guard won its fifth straight match and clinched a NEWMAC tournament berth with a 3-1 victory over Emerson. Game scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-18. Madison Scott added 11 kills while Emma Saunders and Alexi Deane each had eight for the Bears (14-9, 5-3), while Makenna Martin had 43 assists, Michelle McGill 21 digs and Hailye Reynolds 18 digs.

    College football

    • Coast Guard's Darius Adams was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after tying a pair of school records in the Bears' 56-54 win over Curry. Adams, a junior wide receiver, had eight receptions for 213 yards and tied a school record with three touchdown catches. He also tied the single-season record with nine TD receptions. He also had 27 receptions for 646 yards on the season and his 23.9 yards per-catch ranks him seventh nationally in Division III.
