Deal more harshly with Old Lyme officer

The Old Lyme Board of Selectmen has failed society. No one passing through Old Lyme is safe from police officer Sal Milardo. First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder's position that there isn’t enough evidence to terminate Milardo is preposterous. If the victim was determined to be credible enough to suspend Milardo then the victim is credible enough to be a witness in any termination hearing.

Reemsnyder's position that the town has an obligation to progressively discipline Milardo is also preposterous. Based on remarks the first selectowoman made, Milardo has committed a very serious offense and there is a victim. Progressive discipline does not apply when a police officer terrorizes a community.

I hope the U.S Justice Department is called in to investigate this matter because based on Reemsnyder's comments, Milardo has violated at least one person’s civil rights. Milardo should be placed on administrative duty and have no contact with citizens. His badge gun and anything identifying him as a police officer should be taken.

Every day Milardo is on the road is one more day Milardo can terrorize society.
