CAIR says anti-Muslim letter sent to Connecticut mosque

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations in Connecticut is asking police to increase patrols near a mosque that received a threatening, anti-Muslim letter.

Executive director Mongi Dhaouadi said Wednesday the letter was delivered last week to an Islamic Center of New Haven facility in West Haven. The mosque was moved to Orange several years ago but conducts activities at the West Haven building.

Dhaouadi says the letter used "disturbing" language against Muslims. The letter invoked the name of Republican president-elect Donald Trump and is signed "Americans for a better way."

He says similar letters have been sent to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California and Georgia.

CAIR-CT officials have contacted police and federal authorities.

CAIR says it's seen a spike in anti-Muslim incidents across the country.
