    H.S. baseball: No. 3 East Lyme rallies past Fitch 6-5

    Groton — Jared Hunt's two-run single in the top of the seventh inning propelled East Lyme to a 6-5 win over Fitch in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball game on Wednesday.

    Tommy Mason added a two-run double for the Vikings (16-2, 7-1), who are ranked third in the state.

    "It was a really great game," Fitch coach Jeff Joyce said. "Just back and forth."

    Mike Williams had two hits, including a solo home run, and Nick Helbig also homered for the Falcons (8-10, 4-4).

    In other games:

    • Collin Bakken pitched a five-hitter as No. 8 Waterford beat Montville 5-1 to finish unbeaten in ECC Division II play. Bakken (6-0) struck out six with no walks. Alex Petchark singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Tyler Yeomans had a run-scoring double for Waterford (15-3, 10-0). Alex Quidgeon doubled twice and drove in a run for Montville (9-8, 4-6). 

    • Jordan Warecke pitched a three-hitter as Old Lyme beat Old Saybrook 2-0 in a Shoreline Conference game. Warecke struck out five with no walks and also drove in a run. Jace Funaro had two hits and Matt Kane and Funaro doubled for the Wildcats (14-4, 14-3).

    • Bryan Caisse earned the win in relief and drove in two runs as Norwich Free Academy rallied for a 6-2 win over Ledyard in an ECC Division I game. Caisse allowed two hits and one run over three innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Cam Brodeur and Kevin Pomroy drove in two runs each and Colby Jakan and Pomroy had two hits each for NFA (7-12, 4-4), which must beat Woodstock Academy on Saturday to qualify for the Class LL state tournament. James Laconico doubled and Ken Turner pitched a seven-hitter for Ledyard (10-8, 3-4). 

    • Griffin Crowley had three hits and Connor Woodworth earned the win, leading Stonington past Woodstock 10-4 in ECC Division II. Woodworth also had three hits for the Bears (10-7, 5-5).

    • Elijah Martinez had three hits, including two doubles, with two RBI as New London beat Norwich Tech 7-5 in eight innings. Zane Mikula struck out four over six innings and Rob Otanex got the win in relief for the Whalers (6-11), who must win two of their last three games to qualify for the Class L state tournament. Sigfredo Hidalgo added two hits for New London.

    • Martinez went the distance for the win and drove in two runs as New London beat St. Bernard 6-0 on Tuesday night. Martinez, who struck out six, also had two hits. Robert Parra tripled and drove in three runs for New London.
