    H.S. baseball: NFA earns postseason bid with 1-0 win over Woodstock

    Norwich — Bryan Caisse pitched a two-hitter as Norwich Free Academy beat Woodstock Academy 1-0 on Saturday to qualify for the Eastern Connecticut Conference and CIAC Class LL baseball tournaments.

    Nick Gallivan hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for the Wildcats, who finish the regular season 8-12.

    In other games:

    • Calvin Vabrel's two-out infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Chris Munzer as Wheeler rallied for a 4-3 victory over Windham Tech in its regular-season finale. Munzer had singled, stole second and was bunted to third. The Lions (9-11) trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh when Bowen Baker doubled home Anthony Cibarich to send the game into extra innings. Dylan Wilkinson added two hits with a run and RBI and also pitched six solid innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out eight.

    • Alex Kravchuk hit a three-run double to give E.O. Smith a 5-2 win over Fitch. Pat Hannon pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for E.O. Smith (9-9). Tyler Nelli had two hits and an RBI for the Falcons (8-12) and Aaron Beeney doubled.

    • Matt Malcom went 5-for-5, including three doubles, and scored twice as East Lyme downed Stonington 15-5 late Friday. Luke Leonard had two hits, including a triple, with two runs and two RBI for East Lyme (18-2), ranked third in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register Top 10 poll. Also, Tom Mason hit a three-run double and winning pitcher Blake Bragaw scattered five hits over five innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs. Kevin Ferrer hit a three-run home run for the Bears (10-8) and Jaden Stefanski hit an RBI triple and scored. Kyle Whipple added two hits, including a double, and scored.
