    Museums celebrate CT Open House Day

    Museums across the state are offering free or discounted admission in honor of the 13th annual Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 10.

    The event, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism, was created to showcase the state’s museums, historical sites and other attractions and invite residents to explore their own state’s hidden treasures.

    Groton

    Avery-Copp House — 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 154 Thames St.,; free admission.

    Ebenezer Avery House — noon-4 p.m., Fort Street; free admission.

    Old Mystic

    Indian and Colonial Research Center — 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 39 Main St.; free guided tours.

    Mystic

    Denison Homestead Museum — 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 120 Pequotsepos Road; free admission.

    Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center — 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 109 Pequotsepos Road; free admission for Connecticut residents.

    Mystic Aquarium — 9 a.m.-5:50 p.m., 55 Coogan Blvd.; $6 off admission when mentioning CT Open House Day, good up to four guests.

    Uncasville

    Tantaquidgeon Museum — 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 1819 Route 32; tour of the oldest Indian-owned and -operated museum in the country and a free gift.

    Montville

    Dinosaur Place at Nature’s Art Village — 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 1650 Route 85; $3 off admission and a dinosaur lollipop for each child.

    New London

    Custom House Maritime Museum — 1-5 p.m., 150 Bank St.; $5 single admission, $7 for two people, 10 percent discount in the Museum Shop.

    Hempsted Houses — noon-4 p.m., 11 Hempstead St.; free admission.

    Monte Cristo Cottage — noon-4 p.m., 325 Pequot Ave.; free tours.

    Shaw Mansion — 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 11 Blinman St.; reduced membership prices and 20 percent discount on books.

    Niantic

    Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut — 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 409 Main St.; $1 off admission for Connecticut residents.

    Samuel Smith House — 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 82 Plants Dam Road; free tours.

    Smith-Harris House Museum — 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 33 Society Road; lawn games and refreshments.

    Thomas Lee House and Little Boston School — 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 228 West Main St.; tours by East Lyme Historical Society members.

    Colchester

    Colchester History Museum — 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 24 Linwood Ave.; free admission.

    Norwich

    Leffingwell House Museum — 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 348 Washington St.; free guided tours of the first floor.

    Norwich Heritage and Regional Visitors’ Center — 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 69 East Town St.; performance by Tom Callinan, first Official State Troubadour, on his “Troubadour Trail” walking tour at 2 p.m.

    Waterford

    Eugene O’Neill Theater Center — noon-4 p.m., 305 Great Neck Road; guests receive a ticket voucher for one National Playwrights Conference or the National Music Theater Conference.
