After a mysterious five-year split, the members of LCD Soundsystem reunited two years ago and have finally released their much-anticipated fourth album titled “American Dream.” For me the album was an ode to bygone eras of '70s, and '80s synth pop, post-punk, electro-funk and art-rock. Referencing music history’s greatest artists, “Other Voices” is reminiscent of Talking Heads’ David Byrne; the opening track “Oh Baby” sounds like a synth-laced dream; and “Call the Police” and “Emotional Haircut” come off in a Bono-ized fashion. So while it might be difficult to imagine how all these influences could come together into something cohesive, LCD Soundsystem pulls it off in an album that is as equally fun as it is hypnotic. — Mary Biekert
