New London — City officers on Wednesday morning were canvassing the area near Connecticut Avenue and Prest Street after multiple shots were fired in the vicinity just before midnight.

According to police, several people called 911 about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday to report gunshots in the area. Some of the callers reported having heard about seven or eight rounds, police said.

So far, officers have located three projectile strikes — one through a fence post at 37 Connecticut Ave. and two others into the rear of a building on Blackhall Court.

Police haven't learned of any victims associated with the shooting.

On Wednesday morning, two women who live in the multi-family home at 37 Connecticut Ave. returned home as officers were searching for ballistic evidence.

One said she was home at the time of the shooting, but didn't hear anything. The other had just returned from an overnight shift. She learned of the shooting from the police on scene.

Officers took down the women's names and continued their investigation. Both detectives and patrol officers are investigating.
