New podcast on local history debuts

"Recorded History," a new monthly podcast by The Day, debuts online this month, hosted by Community Editor Lee Howard.

The podcast's first guest, Groton Town Historian Jim Streeter, during the 20-minute segment discusses his new book, "Remembering Our Veterans: A Directory of Groton's Veterans & War Memorials." The podcast is being released in conjunction with Veterans Day.

Streeter said in the podcast that he was surprised at the number of memorials dotting Groton, including more than 30 at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base. In all, the town has more than 80 memorials celebrating the lives of those involved in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War. Streeter, former town mayor of Groton, said he visited nearly every memorial, except for one in a restricted area at the sub base.
