Windham — State police on Sunday arrested two Norwich men after one allegedly stabbed the other in the parking lot of the Willimantic IGA supermarket.

According to police, 35-year-old Augustin Alvarado stabbed 52-year-old Albert Smith following an argument outside the store at 422 Windham Road. Police said troopers were called to the scene at 2:22 p.m.

According to police, both Smith and Alvarado admitted they were involved in the incident, in which Smith was stabbed “several times.” Smith allegedly told police he confronted Alvarado and started the altercation.

Police said Alvarado, of 449 Boswell Ave., Apt. 2, Norwich, left the scene of the incident shortly after it occurred. Police later located Alavarado and charged him with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree assault.

Smith, of 582 N. Main St., Apt. 2, Norwich, was charged with breach of peace.

Released on a $5,000 nonsurety bond, Smith is due in Danielson Superior Court Feb. 20.

Held on a $10,000 surety bond, Alvarado appeared in the same court Monday.
