Living Colour performs Friday in Wolf Den

"One-hit wonder" is a particularly unfortunate term used to describe the fact that an artist experienced chart success with a singular tune. "Too Shy," for example, was a one-hit wonder for Kajagoogoo, just as "Walking in Memphis" was for Marc Cohn.

Well, for one thing, "hits" are all-too-often prearranged by labels, marketing weasels, and the media. For another, the inference is that, if it's not one of these "hits," a band's music can't be any good, right?

Living Colour, the four-piece New York metal/funk band, is considered by most morons to be a one-hit wonder band for their song "The Cult of Personality." But they're so much more. Comprised of guitarist Vernon Reed, vocalist Corey Glover, bassist Doug Wimbish and drummer Will Calhoun, Living Colour is a tremendous live act with chops and charisma to spare — not to mention numerous tunes such as "Behind the Sun," "Leave It Alone" and "Song Without Sin."

Currently on tour with Aerosmith, Living Colour plays a one-off free sow Friday in the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. Expect a dazzling array of tunes beyond just "Cult," including material from their sixth album, "Shade," due out this fall.
