Long Island alt-rock band The Serotones visit New London's Oasis Pub
Long Island isn't just a haven for the Caligulan wealthy. Too, it's the setting for "Royal Pains," a summer-only primetime comedy-soap about a concierge doctor — and your brainy correspondent wouldn't dream of missing even one episode.
But Long Island also has a rich musical history, and The Serotones, an alt-rock band from Miller Place on the North Shore, represent the finest and newest surge of island talent.
Their self-titled EP, produced by Mike Watts (The Dear Hunter, As Tall As Lions), is a ridiculously impressive, high energy, five-tune blast. From the Jellyfish-ish vocal harmonies of guitarist Kevin Eiserman and keyboardist April Gabrielli to the not-afraid-of-80s synths, the recording boasts concise songs bubbling with indelible musicality and energy.
And what a fortuitous opportunity for local folks: The Serotones will be in New London Friday for a three-act show in the Oasis Pub. Also on the bill are empathetically virtuosic bands Matzah Cigar and The Feels.
