Most fans who actively follow standup comedy probably appreciate the undercurrent of angst, melancholy and self-doubt that seems to be part of the DNA of many of the best comedians.

Patton Oswalt, an extremely bright comic, incorporates his own insecurities into real-world situation that maybe aren't particularly unique, but his wit and skewed scrutiny make them special and consistently hilarious. He's best at somehow turning really dark events into almost sunny-sounding anecdotes. For example, consider his "charmingly racist baby" bit or "depression in the supermarket" story from his latest special, "Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time."

The dude's great. See him Saturday when he does two sets in the Fox Theater at Foxwoods.

    Patton Oswalt,  8 and 10:30 p.m. Sat., Fox Theater, Foxwoods; $30 and $50; 1-800-200-2882.
