    Avalon nursing home receives recognition

Stonington — Avalon Health Care Center at StoneRidge announced this week that it has been named one of the Connecticut’s Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News & World Report.

It has also been found deficiency-free by the state Department of Public Health in the most recent survey, and has achieved a five-star rating from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the nursing home said in a news release.

“We’re gratified that our hard work and patient-centered care have resulted in these outstanding reviews by health, government and national sources,” Yvette Dobruck, administrator of Avalon, said. “Our staff is committed to providing the highest quality care with the most attentive and compassionate delivery; our record now reflects our collective dedication to that mission."

The public health department recently released its annual nursing home inspection surveys, in which Avalon was found to be deficiency-free based on an examination of medical, safety and health measures, the nursing home said. It is one of only 5 percent of nursing homes nationally to achieve that status.
