Rose City Athletics holds grand opening, starts workouts

Norwich — About 40 people attended Friday morning’s grand opening ceremony for the new Rose City Athletics cross-training facility, 40R Franklin St., and when the ceremony ended, it was time to get to work.

Co-owner siblings Luigina and Tony Facchini led the facility’s first community workout class at 9:30 a.m. for about 30 participants. A second class was planned for 5:30 p.m. Friday.

“What a clean, sharp, crisp space,” Norwich Community Development Corp. President Robert Mills said of the new facility, located in the rear of NCDC’s Foundry 66 building. “Two young Norwichites and their mission is to invest in the city and invest in the youth.”

Luigina Facchini said Rose City Athletics will be open seven days, but the schedule at first will be flexible. The owners are planning to be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with a yoga class scheduled for 5:30 on Sunday and Thursday.

The facility opened Friday with 36 members signed up, Luigina Facchini said.

Memberships are $50 per month for an unlimited number of classes and open gym. At the $100 per month Wellness Package level, members also would receive a one-hour therapeutic service per month, such as massage therapy, reiki, private yoga, facials or cupping.
