    Sun keep playoff hopes alive

Chicago — The Connecticut Sun still have a pulse ... even though it remains a bit faint.

The Sun rallied for a 72-68 road victory over the playoff-bound Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon, then sat back and watched the Seattle Storm surprise the Washington Mystics 69-59 on the West Coast later in the evening.

A Washington win would have eliminated Connecticut from playoff consideration, leaving the Sun with little else to wish for other than earning a chance to win the Breanna Stewart Bonanze in a talent-rich WNBA Draft Lottery in 2016.

Instead, the Sun (13-17) live to play another day, although they must win their final four games and hope Washington (16-12) loses its last six. The Sun visit Indiana on Tuesday while the Mystics, who won their regular-season series against the Sun (3-1), continue their West Coast swing on Wednesday at Phoenix.

Kelsey Bone scored 25 points for Connecticut, which erased a nine-point, fourth-quarter deficit against the short-handed Sky.

Bone scored seven points in the final six minutes and Chelsea Gray added another six, including a big 3-point field goal for a 64-62 lead.

Bone has now scored in double figures 23 times this season for the Sun, including six with 20 or more. Kelly Faris tied her season best with four rebounds while Kayla Pedersen added a season-high four assists.

Chicago (18-12) was without league-leading scorer Elena Delle Donne and Cappie Pondexter, who had 22 points in Saturday's 98-96 win over Atlanta to clinch a berth in the playoffs. Delle Donne, who sat out her second straight game with an injured foot, received the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award for July before the game.

Courtney Vandersloot picked up some of the offensive slack, scoring 18 points, but without Delle Donne the Sky were just 1-for-8 from long range.

It was the fifth straight game that Connecticut played without all-star guard Alex Bentley (ankle), starting forward Alyssa Thomas (shoulder) and rookie reserve center Elizabeth Williams (knee).
