Sun's Bone earns WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor

Kelsey Bone of the Connecticut Sun earned her first WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor after finishing the season with a personal best on Sunday.

Bone, a third-year center, averaged a league-high 25 points in two games and was third in the East in rebounding (7 rpg).

Bone had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-64 loss to the league-leading New York Liberty (Sept. 9). Sunday, she scored a career-high 31 to lead the Sun to an 86-75 win over the defending Eastern Conference champion Chicago Sky, seeded second in this year’s East playoffs.

Connecticut (15-19) missed the playoffs for a franchise-record third straight season, but Bone made herself into a viable candidate for the league’s Most Improved Player. She had the season’s seventh-best scoring average (15.4), an improvement of 6.1 points. She also averaged a career-high 6.3 rebounds in her second season with the team and was chosen by the league's head coaches to play in July's WNBA All-Star Game.
