    Annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition opens Jan. 22

    The Slater Memorial Museum’s 73rd annual Connecticut Artists Juried Exhibition will open Jan. 22 with a reception in the museum’s Converse Art Gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. This year more than 280 works were submitted by more than 150 artists from all over the state.

    The year’s award-winning works are: First place: “Edge of Consciousness” by Bob Desaulnier, East Hampton; Second Place: “The Purgatory Store” by Dawn Kraemer, Huntington; Third Place: “Winter Walk” by Deborah Burklund, Bloomfield; and five honorable mentions: “Divertimento” by Bjorn Olson, Mystic; “Negotiating the Pulpit” by Eleanor Miller, Preston; “Third Man” by David Madacsi, Mystic; “Athen’s Street - The Crappy Negatives Series” by Paul Eric Johnson, Stafford Springs; and “Nightjar (1)” by Will Holub, Old Lyme. For the second consecutive year, the Katherine Forest Craft Foundation Prize for Excellence in Fine Craft was awarded to Clement B. Watson of Lebanon for “Windows in the Pitcher.”
