    H.S. tennis roundup: St. Bernard girls beat East Lyme in battle of unbeatens

    Montville — Kat McKinley, Wendy Bessette and Maddie Mahoney each won at singles as the St. Bernard School girls' tennis team edged East Lyme in a battle of unbeatens  Wednesday 4-3.

    Andrea He and Marissa Fratoni won at No. 2 doubles for St. Bernard (4-0).

    Sophia Shi won the No. 1 singles match for East Lyme (2-1) and the teams of Melinda Li-Katherine Wu and Elisa Crane-Ariel Plantz won at doubles.

    In other matches:

    • Mia Ferguson and Laura Huapaya won at No. 2 and 4 singles, respectively, to lead Montville to a 4-3 win over Ledyard. Clarie Rummel and Kayla Andrews won the top doubles match for Montville (3-2) and Amanda Hester and Indigo Whisman won the No. 3 match. Olivia Lyon won the top singles match for Ledyard (1-4) and Erika DeAndrade won the No. 3 singles match. Also, Cara Tran and Stephanie Vetrano won at doubles.

    • Olivia Kenyon, Hannah Holloway, Lauren Veile and Lauren Fiasconaro won the top four singles matches to pace Norwich Tech to its 6-1 win over Prince Tech in the Constitution State Conference. Emily Kivela and Phoebe Joiner won at doubles for the Warriors (6-1), as did the team of Lea Richovsky and Chanelle Taylor.

    • Diana Francias, Laura Krick, Kailey Sullivan and Jessica Cote all won at singles as Fitch won all but one match in two sets in a 7-0 win over Windham. Jillian Legar and Nina Lupo, Sarah Coombs and Hayley Cooper, and Crystal Vinoyz and Chenna Holloway won at doubles for the Falcons (4-2).

    • Lauren Rahr, Jessica Hudson and Francisca Secor each won in straight sets as Waterford beat New London 5-2 in the ECC Medium. Alaina Moger and Sophie Wang won the top doubles match for the Lancers (5-1, 3-1) and Sophie Impellitteri and Sarah Verity also won. Susane Ortizdevillate won for New London (3-4, 2-3), as did the doubles team of Yesha Patel and Sandrine Etienne.

    • Hanna Fabianski, Emily Gardiner, Taylor Startz and Charlotte Johnstone won their singles matches in straight sets as unbeaten Stonington topped Killingly 7-0 in the ECC Medium. Mallory McArdle and Claire Morehouse, Morgan Parrilla and Gina Feliciano, and Mackenzie Sadler and Jennifer Carroll won at doubles for the Bears (5-0, 3-0).

    Boys

    • Jack Potter won the No. 1 singles match as Ledyard edged Montville 4-3. Jake Skilbred and Ben McHale won the top doubles match for Ledyard (2-4) and Brandon Donovan and Alec DeAndrade won at No. 3 doubles. Sam Lahti won his singles match by forfeit. Rohit Sinha and Gerald Aquino won at singles for Montville (2-4) and Carl Malinowski and Tommy McDaniel won at doubles.

    • Nick Hotary rallied to win the No. 3 singles match 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 as East Lyme beat St. Bernard 5-2. Eric Wu won his singles match for East Lyme (4-0) and Mukesh Kurumbail and Sujay Alavala, Shahan Kamal and Ashwin Menon, and Ashish Joshi and Conrad French all won their doubles matches. Alex and Nick Zuczek won the top two singles matches, respectively, for St. Bernard (1-3).

    • Camiren Carter's three-set victory highlighted a 7-0 Waterford win over New London in an ECC Medium Division match. New London's Bahaa Hoda won the first set 7-6 (4) before Carter rallied for a 6-1, 8-6 win at No. 2 singles. Willie Dong, James Zhu and Hugh Sokolski also won their matches for Waterford (6-1, 4-0) along with the doubles teams of Matt Hausmann-Samson Herbert, Evan Burdsell-Mike Castelpoggi and Dylan Vitale-Mike Gianakos. New London is 2-5, 1-4. 

    • Will Baldwin, Jacob Kowalski, Chase Brown and Kevin Ryan all won their singles matches as Fitch didn’t lose a set in its 7-0 sweep over Windham. The double teams Matt Pastor and Bennett Tiesinga, Kush Kumar and Connor Brown, and Shiloh Feldmon and Alex Adrian also won for the Falcons (4-1).

    • Old Lyme’s Brendan White, Charlie Dahlkie, Eric Pan and Kiran Nadkarni all won as the Wildcats downed Portland 6-1 in the Shoreline Conference. The doubles teams of Austin Pilgrim and Ethan Fenton, and Alex Clippinger and Adam Czarnecki, also won for Old Lyme.

    • Williams School won the top two singles matches, but lost to Rocky Hill School 4-3. Jon Powell and James Burris won for Williams along with the doubles team of Olivia Foster and Ashton Kozlowski.
