Fitch's Amar receives Red Sox Service Scholarship

Boston — Nalissa Amar, a 2016 graduate of Fitch Senior High School and member of the Falcons' state championship softball team, received one of 22 Connecticut Red Sox Service Scholarships presented to graduating seniors from Connecticut public high schools this year.

As a sponsor of the program, the Ford Motor Company Fund's Tom O’Leary was on the field to help present Amar with her award at Fenway Park prior to last Sunday’s Red Sox game against the Minnesota Twins.

This is the scholarship program’s third year in Connecticut. It was first launched in New Hampshire in 2010 and now runs in all five New England states outside of Massachusetts. The $1,000 Red Sox Service Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility and demonstrated community service.

Amar, Fitch's right fielder, will attend Emmanuel College this fall.

The Falcons won the Class L state championship for the second time in three seasons, beating Masuk 2-0 on June 10 and being ranked No. 1 in the final state poll. Amar was the recipient of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Sportsmanship Award.
