    H.S. baseball roundup: NFA rallies to beat Ledyard

    Ledyard — The Norwich Free Academy baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday and held on to beat Ledyard 6-5 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game.

    George Etzel (double, three RBI) and Vinny Gualtieri had two hits each, Kevin Pomroy scored twice and Jordan Lake drove in two runs for NFA (2-6, 2-1). Drew Riffle had two hits and scored twice and Cade Walters had two hits for Ledyard (2-5, 1-2).

    In other games:

    • East Lyme jumped out to a 7-0 lead and cruised to a 12-2 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I game. Dan Allard tossed a complete-game, two-hitter, striking out eight and walking four, while Chris Malcom (2-for-4, RBI), Luke Leonard (2-for-4, RBI), Matt Malcom (2-for-4, three RBI) and Tom Mason (3-for-4, two RBI) combined for nine hits and seven RBI for the Vikings (6-4, 4-0). Tyler Nelli and Giovanni Valentine had the only hits for Fitch (6-3, 1-2).

    • Matt Driscoll was 3-for-3 and scored four runs as No. 4 Waterford beat Killingly 18-2 in an ECC Division II game. Jared Burrows doubled and scored three runs and Sonny Pezzello had two hits and scored twice for Waterford (6-1, 3-1). Mike Burrows got the win, striking out eight over four innings of one-hit ball. 

    • Colton Vasseur came on in relief in the top of the seventh with runners on first and second and no out and retired the next three batters as Bacon Academy edged Montville 12-11 in an ECC Division II game. Bacon (7-1, 4-0) scored six times with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Will Anderson hit a game-tying two-run double, and Luke LaSaracina (three hits) hit a go-ahead RBI single for the Bobcats. Brian Scheidel (three runs) hit a game-tying three-run home run in Bacon’s six-run, fourth inning. Doug Delacruz had three hits, including a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs for Montville (5-1, 2-1) and Brandon Drake added two hits, including a solo home run.

    • Liam Holloway and Griffin Powers had Old Lyme's only hits in a 3-0 Shoreline Conference loss to Coginchaug.
