    It's not the registrars, it's Merrill's operation

I have been a registrar of voters in Montville for 15 years and I cannot believe how fast our current secretary of the state tried to demolish our Democratic system. She is putting all of the blame of five incompetent registrars on the entire duly elected registrars. Perhaps if Denise Merrill would work at getting her own office in order the election process would run efficiently.

ROVAC (Registrar of Voters Association of Connecticut) has tried to work with the current administration to get many changes enacted such as end-of-night reporting, election day registration and our auditing process. We can't even get head moderators' returns given to us in a form that can be emailed to the secretary at night's end. Instead they require us to either fax or send it by pony express (State Police).

When you call the election office to get a ruling on something, you may get four different answers. I now always do this through email so that I have a written ruling.

Merrill told ROVAC she had no intention of dismantling the registrar system. Her problem is that she can't work with people who know their job and try to do the best with what she offers.
