Keep up pressure to save 'The Hills'

The June 4 public hearing on Oswegatchie Hills drew a big crowd. The next public hearing on Thursday at Nett Hall at Camp Niantic promises to be just as exciting and informative. Many questions remain to be answered.

At the recent hearing, the East Lyme Zoning Commission wisely agreed and unanimously voted to send the developer's application to the East Lyme Inland Wetlands Commission. This decision came as a result of successful arguments, including quotes from State Statutes, presented by Roger Reynolds, attorney for Connecticut Fund for the Environment-Save the Sound. The Wetlands Commission will evaluate the application's impact on the Niantic River and the Oswegatchie Hills.

Hopefully, the public will attend and show support for defeating this destructive proposal. In these cynical times, it's important to realize that local government does listen and respond to the people. Come and be heard on Thursday.

President, Save the River/Save the Hills
