I am writing this letter to inform the community that on May 19 the Executive Committee of the New London Board of Education voted to move the attendance policy to the Policy Committee for further research. But sadly, after more than a month, nothing more has happened.

Currently there has not been a single person appointed to the Policy Committee, thus making the words spoken by the superintendent during the meeting, mean nothing but words to settle our youth voices crying for a change in New London Public Schools. I don’t understand why we can't have this policy in place before the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

These policies would put students on the right track to graduating high school and not being another statistic that never made it. The policy needs to be in place in order to make sure that more of my friends and classmates have the opportunity to succeed.

Change needs to happen now; move this policy forward. I am a senior at New London High School and a member of the youth organization Hearing Youth Voices.
