Planned museum location would be an insult

Three cheers for Nancy d'Estang’s letter, "So many bad choices damage New London heritage," (May 23). I couldn't have written it better myself. I agree with her 100 percent, particularly the "secretive and dogged illogical site selection" of the proposed Coast Guard Museum. Every Connecticut taxpayer I've spoken to is furious about Gov. Malloy committing $20 million for a pedestrian bridge when the state is broke. After speaking with many active and retired U.S. Coast Guard personnel about the proposed location of the museum, they indicated to me that they see the proposed site as an insult to their dedicated service. Build the museum at Fort Trumbull (which is on the water) where it belongs, not in a flood plain downtown.

Southeastern Connecticut is a beautiful place to live and I hope we'll keep it that way. The committees of these future and proposed projects need to respect the historical buildings and deep heritage of the area in which we live. The voices of residents should be regarded.
