    'Jewish-run' reference was needless, offensive

Can someone at The Day say what (or whose) purpose was achieved by noting that the dissolved New London Security Federal Credit Union was a "Jewish-run credit union?" “Credit union investors get partial repayment,” (Sept. 29). That was offensive. Religion had no relevance to the topic and saying that further perpetuates the rampant bigotry in our country. Perhaps the writer, Lee Howard, was one of the credit union members who lost money in the embezzlement and had a need to strike out? Stick to the topic.

Editor's note: Mr. Howard, who was never a member, notes the credit union was started by the Jewish community in the 1930s to help combat discrimination in the local banking community and continued to be run as a religious-based credit union until its demise.
