Keep trying to save Reid & Hughes building
Norwich has been dealing with the deteriorating Reid & Hughes building for too many years during which many proposals have been made, none of which have come to fruition. Now we are faced with two proposals, either to tear it down or to shore it up to allow for a viable reuse as a functional residential/commercial property. The cost for this solution is far less expensive than tearing the existing building down, which would result in an ugly hole in the downtown and unsuitable for future use due to its size and parking limitations.
The city can be proactive and work with the proposed developers to achieve an outcome that would enhance the downtown. Saving the building would be the correct and wise approach with respect to Norwich's architectural historic past, present and especially future.
