Smart school proposal deserves Groton's support

It's past time for Groton to modernize our schools. On the Nov. 8 ballot, Groton voters will be able to approve a multi-faceted solution to several long-standing problems. The school project solves the mandated racial imbalance issues without more disruptive redistricting. It improves education at the middle school and elementary levels and it takes three outdated and very expensive 65-year old buildings offline. It reduces our school buildings from 10 to 8, allowing for annual savings in administrative salaries, lower energy costs and efficient class sizes. It eliminates 30-year-old portable classrooms. Further, if the proposal fails, we face an equal or greater cost to repair the old buildings without state reimbursement or any educational gains! Delay means higher construction costs and interest rates and lower state reimbursements. Vote "yes" for this smart proposal.
