New London lets taxable property slip by

Since 2006 I have suggested that all nonprofits, such as the hospital (in the example below), receive a tax bill.

There are many refrigerators in service at the hospital and, while the ones that only hold medicine are tax exempted, those that are used to hold the nurses' lunch bags are not exempt from taxation.

There are many other examples such as this that can be applied to receive tax revenue from every nonprofit in New London.

Creating an auditing and tax fraud program would provide the mechanism to generate revenue from all the current tax exempted nonprofits, but only if the mayor or City Council ordered it.
