Coast Guard helps three in vessel taking on water in Groton

Groton — The Coast Guard on Friday afternoon helped three people whose vessel was taking on water near Pine Island, the Coast Guard said in a news release Friday evening.

There were no injuries and no pollution was reported.

A call came in to the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound at 1:35 p.m., according to the release. The caller stated that an 18-foot vessel was taking on water near Pine Island and that the three boaters had launched two red flares.

Pine Island is located off the coast of UConn Avery Point.

A rescue crew on a 45-foot response boat launched from the Coast Guard Station New London and, upon arrival, dewatered the vessel. The crew then towed the boat to the Groton Public Boat Ramp.
