Ledyard and North Stonington schools will reopen today — just two hours later than usual.

Other local schools are operating on a regular schedule — some for the first time since last week — after a powerful weekend storm crippled the Northeast. The storm dumped several inches of rain, loosening up soil and waterlogging trees, and packed gusts up to 73 mph in some places.

Damage was widespread and some power outages remain. According to Eversource, 1,541 Stonington customers remained without power Wednesday morning. About 900 Ledyard customers, 700 North Stonington customers and 600 Preston customers also were without power.
