Stonington COMO receives national accreditation for its preschool

Stonington — The Stonington Community Center’s Doris Muller Preschool recently received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The accreditation, which recognizes high-quality learning environments, took the COMO two years to complete. The preschool is now one of 7,000 programs currently accredited by NAEYC — which is less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens.

“Our standard for all our programs is excellence,” COMO Executive Director Beth Stewart said. “This is the bar. NAEYC has publicly recognized this standard within our preschool classroom and team as a result of our education director Priscilla Rouquayrol’s leadership.”

In order to be accredited, programs must meet certain standards of excellence in areas such as curriculum, child assessment, family communication, community collaboration, physical environment and leadership and management.

“This merit recognizes the COMO’s commitment to excellence and our staff’s hard work,” Stewart said. “We couldn’t be more proud of earning this recognition.”
